Nearly all yoga lovers wish to have a yoga studio size space in their home. We'll also love to have a big window opening in the eastern direction towards a garden and a decent hardwood flooring to complement it. And those who are totally obsessed with yoga would also love to get up at 4:30AM in such an amazing environment to practice yoga till sunrise, isn't it?
However, there's only one problem that all of us know extremely well: This scenario isn't a reality for most of us. Currently I don't know anyone with this much proper set-up. Many of us have a myth that if our house doesn't has a yoga optimized home architecture and infrastructure we can't do anything to make it feel like that. However, it's nothing more than a myth. You just need a bit of creativity to make almost any house feel like yoga optimized.
Given below are a few things that you can do for making your home environment optimized for yoga:
- First of all, learn working with what you already have. As far I know, most of us can't dedicate a separate room to yoga. I use one single room as a bedroom and office both. I use the same room for my yoga practice too. You too don't need to have a fancy room for practicing yoga with wooden flooring. All you need is enough space for holding yourself in Downward-facing Dog.
- Assign a dedicated space. Although you don't need to have a large and fancy space for yoga practice, still it helps to unroll your yoga mat every time at the same point. It helps in motivating you for practice - whenever you're near that particular area, it's hard to ignore the practice. At least it'll remain in your mind.
- The view should be inspiring. For some people it's photo of a particularly strong yogi doing arm balances, for some it's a poster of their favorite yoga teacher, for some it may be a statue of Lord Buddha while for some it may be a beautiful natural view. Whatever inspires you should be in front of your eyes when you start practice.
- And lastly, shoes at the door please. Don't get me wrong. I'm obviously not a germophobe so I'm not saying you to do this for preventing germs in your home. I'm just saying you to do this because it gives the ritual of a yoga studio that motivates you to enter into the practice mode. And of course, it also decreases germs in your practice space!
